One gang square drawn 1/4 in raised offset device rings are used to move a switch outlet or plug to one side of the box away from obstacles present on the job or for easier wiring access. They are commonly used on old boxes in walls that need offset device installation. They allow the installer to move devices offset in any direction. The covers flat surface is keyed to catch plaster or drywall mud.
